April 12th, 2023:
Christian Winther Quartet "Stories of Change"
Christian Winther Quartet “Stories of Change” New Orleans based saxophonist and composer Christian Winther’s new project “Stories of Change” features original compositions written by Winther over the last year. It is the next chapter in the saxophonist’s jazz-life story, one that exudes an honest and melodious quality in his pursuit of the art-form as Winther states “This music is about my personal connection with music. Playing from a place within and using my sound to share the stories I have to tell”. These stories are brought to life by Winther and his stellar quartet of in-demand players. A strong sense of melody and swing permeates Winther’s original compositions. Steeped in the jazz tradition and drawing on the rhythms of New Orleans the group creates an experience that takes the listener on a journey full of musical stories. Everything ranging from lyrical ballads to grooves and up-tempo swing shows the groups deep interaction and unique sound. In the words of the great Louis Armstrong “What we play is life”.
