For this week's performance the Jazz Foundation of America is proud to present:
Linda Aubert
A music professional for over twenty years, Linda Aubert is a multi-talented Music Artist. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Linda’s background in jazz and classical music has evolved into a style she share’s with no one. Having attended Loyola College of Music in New Orleans early on, Linda performed as a singer and bassist with colleagues throughout the city. She was the first African American in New Orleans to win an amateur singing spot with the New Orleans Summer Pops, and the first “black chick” singer to perform with an all-white male group, crossing race and gender barriers that took her on a musical journey she never imagined. Leaving New Orleans in search of growing her music, Linda accepted a gig in New York City. After only four weeks on that gig as a piano-vocal performer, Linda was spotted by a talent agent who signed her up with his agency and booked her throughout the United States, Japan, Indonesia, Bermuda and Puerto. Unknowingly, Linda became an ambassador of American Music. Settling in Los Angeles in the nineties, Linda took a day job while continuing to perform occasionally as a pianist and vocalist, Soon after, she began transcribing music for Count Marv’s Note Factory, an established music production company; which led to her decision to enroll in the Film Scoring Program at University of California – Los Angeles where she obtained a Certificate in Film Scoring in 2001. This endeavor gave her the confidence and skills she needed to continue and further her career in music, As a result, (irrespective) she is composer-lyricist for the all new musical “Choo Choo Me Home”, and playwright-composer-lyricist of “Creation” – an all new dance musical which are both in pre-production. She is published by Ludwin Music and New Genesis Music Company with compositions including her Music and Masterpiece visual art project that was performed by the Conservatory Youth Orchestra of the Acadiana Symphony of Lafayette, Louisiana for their Spring Concert in 2006; Maiden Song for Soprano and Piano; Musique Modern for Piano and Bass; Americana for String Ensemble; and Christmas Is Coming for Piano or Guitar and SATB Chorus. In film, Linda has composed and recorded music for Beautiful Flower Productions and Two Meters Productions (2008). She is also composer-conductor and producer of a CD of music score samples which is a part of her regularly updated library of music for film directors and producers. Moving back to New Orleans in January of 2002 to care for an elderly grandmother, Linda continued writing and working on her vocal and piano style. With a great love for performing Jazz, and hoping to sustain herself with music full-time once again, she landed a gig at Charley G’s in Lafayette, Louisiana having evacuated there during Hurricane Katrina. From this performance alone, she realized how much she missed being on-stage and proved that her hard work on solo performing had met with success. Once things settled down from Hurricane Katrina, Linda was booked as a piano-vocalist at the Ritz Carlton for its reopening and again during the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 2007. Currently, she is the music arranger for house band at The Blues Club on Bourbon Street, has a steady gig as musician for Brooke-Shaw UMC, as well as singing and playing on other local gigs as they come up. Using her experience and maturity now to perform solo, Linda’s style is very intriguing and exciting. On every gig she’s played in New Orleans in recent months, she has been received as a newcomer who “you gotta hear”. Realizing she is not so new to the music business, making a permanent mark in music industry is well within her grasp.
