RL BOYCE /Lightnin' Malcom
Living Hill Country Blues legend RL BOYCE, lifelong resident of Como Mississippi began playing traditional Mississippi Blues in 1970 at age 15 with his Uncle Otha Turner's Fife and Drum Band. He went on to play drums for the She Wolf herself Jessie Mae Hemphill before he broke out with his own guitar style Hill Country Boogie on a dare from Mississippi All Star star Luther Dickinson. In 2018 RL BOYCE’s sophomore solo release Roll & Tumble was nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Traditional Blues album, and a Blues Music Award nominee for Best Traditional Blues album BOOGIE w/ RL BOYCE Live, a live recording of his Blues festival that he hosts in Como, Ms. Labor Day Weekend the RL BOYCE PICNIC (2019). RL joined by his longtime friend and fellow North Mississippi Bluesman Steve Lightnin’ Malcolm. One day in 1996 Lightnin’ Malcolm showed up and rapped on RL BOYCE’s front door. He wanted to learn how to play the Blues from a Living Mississippi Blues legend, but he also wanted to learn live like one too. Lightnin’ Malcolm has since played and recorded with RL Boyce, Cedric Burnside, and many more legendary Mississippi Blues greats. Lightnin’ recently completed a national tour supporting Tab Benoit. Lightnin’ has a new release coming out soon on New Orleans based record label Whiskey Bayou Records.
