An active drummer on the NYC music scene, Sylvia Cuenca has performed around the world with many jazz greats, including 4 years with saxaphone legend Joe Henderson and 17 years with trumpet legend Clark Terry. With Terry’s quintet and big band she performed jazz cruises, clubs, concerts and festivals in the U.S. Europe, the Caribbean, and South America. She performed with Kevin Mahogany at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in South Africa, recently as a sideman on a State Department tour of Nicaragua and toured Australia with Lea Delaria. As a leader Cuenca performed in India, Ukraine, Poland and numerous jazz festivals in the USA. She has been a clinician and educator at a number of universities--most recently Columbia University--and has twice received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
