HOUSING & EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE

“The Jazz Foundation of America is our "Jazz Angel on Earth." Health challenges and Father Time hampered my ability to play, and my medical expenses skyrocketed. Without JFA's help in providing a home health aide, I wouldn't have been able to stay at home. I've watched them help so many great musicians over the years, and now they're helping me. It's the best thing I've ever heard of. Seriously. They've been such a blessing.”Clark Terry
“Thank God for the Jazz Foundation. They got me into a new apartment, some great gigs and gave me a new start. Now I'm opening for B.B. King at the Montreux Jazz Festival. This is a dream come true for me.”Sweet Georgia Brown
“When Katrina hit I lost all my belongings and all my music and was relocated to Texas. The Jazz Foundation made it possible for me to come home and go back to work. Without their help my music would have stopped. They put New Orleans musicians to work when there was no work, and that helped us all more than I can say.”Wardell Quezergue
“When I broke my hip, the Jazz Foundation saved my home, made mortgage payments when I had to cancel my tours, and even visited me in the hospital. I don't know what I would have done without them.”Odetta Gordon

About Us

For 28 years, the Jazz Foundation of America (JFA) has been keeping jazz, blues, roots, R&B and soul alive by helping the musicians who have played with everyone from Duke Ellington and Billie Holiday to Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones. Our social work services prevent homelessness and eviction and provide housing assistance, pro bono medical care, and emergency financial support to musicians of all ages and their families in times of crisis. Through Jazz & Blues in the Schools and other performance programs, we create dignified employment for musicians who are too old or too ill to tour and reach thousands of public schoolchildren every year. Whatever the need is, we don’t ust fix the problem, we heal it with creative solutions and love. JFA now assists in nearly 9,000 cases annually across the country.
