In partnership with Hudson River Park, The Jazz Foundation of America presents Sãlongo.


Led by the formidable trumpeter Eddie Allen, Sãlongo is a seven-piece Afro-Cuban / Brazilian group whose goal is to keep the audience moving. Once the musical director for the great conguero Mongo Santamaria, Allen brings knowledge and dedication to this exuberant ensemble, which honors Santamaria's legacy with an inspired repertoire. Eddie Allen has led a prolific career, working with greats like Art Blakey, Randy Weston, Billy Harper, Etta Jones, and Charli Persip, while leading various ensembles of his own. This band includes: Eddie Allen - trumpet, Bruce Williams - alto sax & flute, Peter Brainin - tenor sax & flute, Oscar Perez - piano, Leo Traverse - bass, Diego Lopez - drums, Renato Thoms - percussion.
