On Sunday, September 6th the Skipp Pearson Jazz Foundation has the honor of welcoming a Jazz icon to the Pearson Virtual Theater for the last performance in the first Jazz from the South series. The incomparable Emmelyne (Emme) Kemp, pianist extraordinaire, vocalist, band leader, composer, actress, lecturer, and music researcher. A protégé of Eubie Blake, Ms. Kemp is known best as the composer of the awarding winning stage hit: Bubbling Brown Sugar, She has performed throughout the United States, Germany, and Japan.
Ms. Kemp studied music at Northwestern University, Berklee College of Music and New York University. She has played Carnegie Hall with the NYU Jazz Ensemble under Jimmy Giuffre, an appeared on numerous college campuses and at festivals.
Jazz from the South highly innovative program format allows its viewing audiences the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the artist being presented. It is designed to offer the added benefit to allow senior Jazz artists to work and perform from home..
